Mountain Paradise Home

Land Area 15 Hectares
37 Acres
1,300 meters of riverfront
Construction 93 m˛

The owners, being an architect and an artist, designed all the structures along the river front beginning in 1997.  The main house is a timber-framed structure with two bedrooms, a loft sleeping area, separate bath and shower areas. The living dining and kitchen are in a “great room” design with a huge fireplace for cool evenings.

The house faces a large tiled terrace on a lakefront to the east for sun in the morning and a large deck off the west for afternoon sun.  A wood-fired stone and tile hot tub are integrated into the east terrace.

Four hectares (10 acres) of the property is developed as a rainbow trout farm with a hatchery and seven small lakes and ponds served by an aqueduct system from the river.  The 4 hectares contain all the buildings and are landscaped with beautiful indigenous flowers and fruit trees including limes, lemons and avocado and pathways for strolling. A continuous growth large vegetable garden with a green house is located on an island in one of the larger lakes. The garden can provide year round fresh vegetables.

Home is situated adjacent the river to the north and a lake to the east.

The remaining area is divided into 6 hectares of pasture (for horses or cows if desired) and 4 hectares of original tropical jungle. The area is noted for its bird life of all kinds and particularly the Quetzals.

The property lies in a lush valley at an elevation of 2,128 meters offering a year-round spring like climate.

Located in the central highlands of Costa Rica, 6 kilometers from the Pan-American highway with the beaches 2 to 3 hours away.

The Amenities and Details:

Electricity, telephone and Internet.

Springs and holding tanks provide fresh domestic water.  A water wheel irrigates the upper gardens and siphoning pipes serve the lower area.

Two other private driveways serve three potential home sites on the higher elevations with spectacular views.  The property is entirely fenced.

30 Meters to the west of the main house is a 37 m˛ guesthouse with a full kitchen, bathroom and outdoor shower overlooking the river.  The house has tile counters and wood floors.  Outside, flowers and ponds surround the house.

A lower level (at grade) garage provides for equipment storage, a small shop and storage for a 2008 3 door diesel Toyota Land Cruiser.

Additional buildings include a large chicken house for daily eggs and a bodega / carport for a 450 Bombardier ATV, shop and firewood storage.

The hatchery building has been used to raise fingerlings, which are grown and then transferred to the ponds.  The farm can be operated as a profitable trout farm if the new owners desired. Currently the owners raise enough fish for their own consumption and for fly fishing.

A neighbor is hired to maintain the landscape and the irrigation and aqueduct system for about $250 per month.
