More about the Ranch.

In addition to the 4 homes, the ranch has a 4 car garage, equipment shed, two storage sheds, an aircraft hanger and grass runway.

Cattle management is made easier with the large covered corral with a cattle scale and squeeze chute.

There is also a one room cabin that was used as a home school.

The remaining 92% is all pastureland, all of which is cross fenced into smaller grazing pastures, all with water.

Cattle-  the ranch can carry 300 head, but presently has 230 consisting of: 3 herd bulls, 103 cows with 44 calves, 70 replacement heifers, and 13 development bulls.  Our breed is called Simbra, a cross of Simmental and Brahman, which we believe is the best for the tropics.  We honestly can boast of the finest commercial herd of Simbra cattle in Costa Rica and have labored for years to get the genetics we currently have.  Our cattle are fat, fertile, gentle, and carry milk and muscle.  To work the cattle we have 5 cow ponies.  We have also planted hundreds of acres of improved grasses from Africa and Brazil.

Inventory:

1999 Case International 4X4 Tractor, mower, spray boom, forage wagon and International Harvester post-hole digger, a Honda Foreman ATV, A Boston Whaler with 60 HP Mercury outboard, 2 plows and a myriad of tools, tack, etc.

About the Area and Owners Comments:

A massive wetlands, called the Llano de Los Guatusos, lies to the west.  So with the river in front and a wetlands to the back, water is never a problem.

Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge-a 10,000 H. wetland area comprised of lagoon, rivers, canals and primary forests.  Listed as a RAMSAR site of world wetland importance and conservation.  Birdwatchers paradise containing many wetland species not found elsewhere in C.R.  World-class tarpon fishing, as the Rio Frio connects with the San Juan and the Carribean Sea.  Thousands of tourists come every year for river nature tours, birdwatching and fishing.  Practically every rainforest mammal native to C.R. lives here.

We have been in C.R. for 15 years and don't know where you can find a more beautiful, tranquil place.  The amount of wildlife, especially birds, just has to be seen to be believed.  You don't have to go any further than the upper deck to observe hundreds of different species, as well as deer and three species of monkeys.  We have literally hooked monster tarpon on flies right in front of the house.  The first large lagoon in the Cano Negro system begins 400 m. upriver from the house.  Access is easy;  the best road in Costa Rica from San Jose leads  practically to our front door.  Going the back way through  Upala and Canas, it's a three hour drive to Liberia and the beaches.  We are also about a 3-1/2 hr. drive north of San Jose.
The area has friendly hard-working people and we have had ZERO problems with crime.  This ranch would be eminently suitable for a dude ranch, nature lodge or fishing camp.
